Storytelling Workshops & Contest

Midland Storytelling Festival will stage a contest for youth tellers in three age categories. Prizes will be awarded and the winners will share the stage with acclaimed nationally recognized teller, Donald Davis for the Friday Night “Preview” Community Program.

Got a story?  How does your family celebrate the holidays?  What are the festivities like?  Is there some special story that has been passed on from generation to generation in your family?  Maybe there is a sacred story associated with your observances.  It could even be your version of a favorite fairy tale.  Those stories give wonderful insights that help us to develop our understanding about the unique and wonderful differences we all have that contribute to our complex society.

Deadline for entry in the contest is October 25, 2017. Workshops prior to the contest will be conducted by local teller, Sue Roseberry, on the following dates at the downtown branch of the Midland County Public Library (301 W. Missouri, Midland, TX 79701)
Thursday, October 26 5:00 - 6:15 PM
Thursday, November 2 5:00 - 6:15 PM
Thursday, November 9 5:00 - 6:15 PM

Workshops and contest entry are free, but you must sign up to attend.

The contest will be held Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 6:30 PM at Midland Shared Spaces (3500 North A Street, Midland, TX). Winners will be notified by November 23rd and should be prepared to participate in the Preview Storytelling Performance to be held on Friday, December 8th at 7:00 PM.  Awards will be presented on December 8th.
